Pine Island ~ One Supportive Community!

Times can be challenging these days.  One of the strengths of Pine Island is the willingness to help out our neighbors when life throws a curve ball.  Here are a few organizations that lend a helping hand when a fellow islander is in need.

The Pine Island Food Pantry provides temporary assistance with food & personal care items.
From Our Hearts supports islanders with breast cancer related needs.
The Pet Pantry helps owners feed their furry friends.
The Beacon of Hope operates a thrift shop. They also provide assistance to islanders  with job hunting, filing for county program assistance & services to seniors living in Bokeelia, St James City & Matlacha.
FISH (Fellow Islanders Sending Help) provides transportation to doctor appointments, respite for caregivers, loans medical equipment & offers limited financial assistance for rent or utilities.

Check out my website for other local civic organizations that makes Pine Island such a unique & special tropical island community. Some groups are quite creative and have fun with their names, such as the "Matlacha Hookers"!  Volunteering is a great way to meet new friends and be an active community member.
