Should I Get a Home Inspection?

Yes.  Buying a home may be the largest investment you'll ever make, so protect yourself.  You want to know all the potential problem areas of a property BEFORE you purchase it.  For a small investment now, you may save substantial money in the future.  Here are areas a basic home inspection will cover:

Structural ~ inspectors are not engineers, but can identify visual defects in areas requiring repairs.
Electrical Systems ~ check outlets, wiring, fuses or breaker boxes.
Plumbing ~ check mechanical systems, fixtures and for leaks.
Appliances ~ verify proper functioning.
Safety Hazards ~ while not environmental specialists, inspectors can identify dangerous conditions.

Be sure to inquire about a possible need for additional inspections such as termite, mold, chinese drywall, radon.  Here in Florida, it is a good idea to have a wind mitigation included in your inspection which may provide insurance discount rates.
